What the Stars Say

Amit Mishra - Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, Haryana Captain

“Ian gave me tips on my leg spin when I asked for advice. Not only is he giving input to the other bowlers, he is constantly motivating them. He has had a positive impact since the day he arrived”

Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel - Royal Challengers Bangalore & Haryana

“There are still flaws in my bowling action that I need to work on. For example, my front knee bends when I deliver and my [body] alignment is a bit on the cross. I'm working on these things with Coach Ian Pont and I hope to have a much improved action”

Nazmul Hossain

Nazmul Hossain - Bangladesh

“Ian has always backed me. He is the only coach to be consistent in this. We have done much work on my accuracy and confidence, while he was here (in Bangladlesh).”

Imran Nazir - Pakistan

“I worked with Ian Pont recently at the Bangladesh Premier League and he simply said to me to bat for as long as possible. Pont told me to stay at the crease, not to worry about how many runs I had scored in the first 6 overs but to just stay out in the middle and to aim to bat for the full twenty overs. He told me “think about batting for the twenty overs as you have all the shots and that if you bat anywhere near the full twenty overs you will be close to scoring a century.

I took on-board what Pont said to me and it worked for me and I had a good BPL tournament. People have accused me of not taking singles, instead just going for the big shots, well I would urge those individuals to look at my innings at the BPL.”

“Ian is the first and only coach to ever focus on speed and accuracy. It’s so exciting to hear it.”

Shoaib Akhtar - Pakistan

“Ian’s right that I can get ‘stuck’ in the crease sometimes on delivery but when I feel as though I’m bowling well, I drive right through it and power out. We discussed straight alignment of the back foot to front foot, which is vital. I have changed mine so my hips aren’t closed off anymore. This power snap of hips, and chest drive is key.

I’ve also worked on strength in my non-bowling side, tummy and bowling shoulder to bowl really quickly. All this is carried by powerful legs so I can get off the ground in my pre-delivery stride and rotate out of the crease. It’s easier to bowl faster with less strain this way. And I know I have some extra pace in my locker, too”

“Ian has developed a marvellous rapport with all of our fast bowlers and worked with them effectively as a group. He has helped to design and implement individually tailored development programmes for our bowlers throughout the off season that have been progressive and thorough. A refreshing learning environment has been created that has resulted in our bowlers improving their knowledge of technique and understanding of their own specific style.

Ian's passion and enthusiasm for enhancing and maximising fast bowlers effectiveness is infectious and he is always a pleasure to work with”

Darren Gough - England

“His methods are so different. By changing my front arm position, I’ve added a yard of pace yet continued to bowl as accurately as ever. He uses a different language to any other coach I’ve ever met. And he’s not afraid to suggest changes to actions”

Alex Tudor - England

“I’ve felt as good as ever this season thanks to Ian’s suggestions about holding on to the ball longer. Plus I didn’t realise my feet weren’t lining up my hips properly. Now I understand the ‘how and why’ of fast bowling in a way I didn’t before”

Ronnie Irani - England

“Although Ian helped me get into the World Cup team I wish I could have had him as my coach when I was younger. He came too late for my career due to injuries, but not for others”

Andre Adams - New Zealand

“Ian picks up things about bowling others don’t see. Then he puts the information across differently so improvements are made quickly. It’s such a deep and lasting level of coaching”
