Darren Gough - England
“His methods are so different. By changing my front arm position, I’ve added a yard of pace yet continued to bowl as accurately as ever. He uses a different language to any other coach I’ve ever met. And he’s not afraid to suggest changes to actions"

Shoaib Akhtar - Pakistan
“Ian’s right that I can get ‘stuck’ in the crease sometimes on delivery but when I feel as though I’m bowling well, I drive right through it and power out. We discussed straight alignment of the back foot to front foot, which is vital. I have changed mine so my hips aren’t closed off anymore. This power snap of hips, and chest drive is key.
I’ve also worked on strength in my non-bowling side, tummy and bowling shoulder to bowl really quickly. All this is carried by powerful legs so I can get off the ground in my pre-delivery stride and rotate out of the crease. It’s easier to bowl faster with less strain this way. And I know I have some extra pace in my locker, too."

Alex Tudor - England
“I’ve felt as good as ever this season thanks to Ian’s suggestions about holding on to the ball longer. Plus I didn’t realise my feet weren’t lining up my hips properly. Now I understand the ‘how and why’ of fast bowling in a way I didn’t before"

Dale Steyn - South Africa
“Ian is the first and only coach to ever focus on speed and accuracy. It’s so exciting to hear it. We've discussed it and feel I can add 4-6 kph (3-5 mph) as I am at the moment. I was clocked at 151 kph (93.8 mph) so this is an incredible opportunity for me"
Note: Dale has indeed bowled even faster and has recently been clocked at 155 kph (96.3 MPH)

Andy Flower, Assistant Coach, England Cricket Team
“One of Ian's strengths is his search for new and improved ways of operating. This makes his discussions lively and his coaching sessions interesting. Ian has a passion for coaching. If I were building an environment of excellence, I would want Ian to be part of it“ |
Ronnie Irani - England
“Although Ian helped me get into the World Cup team I wish I could have had him as my coach when I was younger. He came too late for my career due to injuries, but not for others"

Andre Adams - New Zealand
“Ian picks up things about bowling others don’t see. Then he puts the information across differently so improvements are made quickly. It’s such a deep and lasting level of coaching" |
Mark Ilott - England
“His coaching is great. It’s very special and easy to understand. I learned a lot in a short space of time"

James Middlebrook - Essex
“I've been working on a new delivery that Ian suggested. It's given me an extra dimension to my bowling. Also by using my hips more and rotating out of my action, it means I can disguise the speed of the ball better. This new delivery has extra spin on it and greater dip“ |
Richard Done, ICC High Performance Manager
“Ian has spent a great deal of time trying to simplify the skills so they are more relevant and easily understood by the players he coaches. He is always fully behind the players and supports them both in training and competition environments “ |
